Inside Converso’s Brand-New Los Angeles Showroom

In December, Converso exhibited for the first time at Design Miami/. Now, the New York and Chicago–based dealer of modern design objects and furnishings has opened a retail outpost in Los Angeles. “I always enjoyed going west to California for L.A. Modernism and Palm Springs,” recalls founder Lawrence Converso. “There was a different vibe around L.A. than anywhere else—a sense of optimism. Having a physical space there feels like a homecoming.”

The 2,200-square-foot showroom will house rare pieces by modern design luminaries like Philip Johnson, Isamu Noguchi, Wendell Castle, and George Nakashima. Set aside from the main showroom, a smaller “Cabinet” room will feature capsule collections and curated exhibitions. The inaugural show, running until March 9, spotlights Mario Del Fabbro's sculpted wooden forms. Outside, local artist Artsu Ono's camouflage-pattern awnings in muted colors evoke the California desert.
