MAKEOVER MAGIC: BATHROOMS GO BOLD!
Architect: Shabnam Gupta, The Orange Lane
The Brief: Shah was sure he wanted a vintage look for the most private space in his home. The challenge was to make this space
practical yet classic.

The Solution: The light colours on the walls highlight all the vintage elements. The gorgeous chandelier forms the focal point of this space. As one enters, the charm of the space flows through with an intricately antique framed mirror. The flooring, in shades of beige, uses three different types of stones. The shower divider is made with dull gold finished M.S framed glass, making an otherwise simple element look well-designed. The curtains and nooked artfully framed library in the bathroom add a cosy, homely touch to the overall vintage style.

"Every design element in a bathroom should have a purpose and be functional in some way or another to create a space-saving sanctuary. Bathrooms usually don’t get as much attention or fanfare as they deserve. With this project, that’s what we have tried to change."

Child-friendly Bathroom
Owner: Poonam Sangha, New Delhi
Architect: Geeta Uppal, Principal Architect, Sandeep Geeta and Associates
The Brief: While the awkward space was a challenge, the bigger challenge was to create a child-friendly bathroom.
The Solution: The neutral palette acts as the perfect backdrop for this modern bathroom. Introducing metallics through hardware and other accents gives this space a dramatic edge. The elaborate Kamala Sink, part of Kohler’s artist edition, brings in the glam factor. The Emerald bathtub that fits snugly in the corner is the real stunner here. The entire bathroom is designed as a child-friendly space, with the bathtub obviously being their favourite corner.
"This was one of those bathrooms, which was just another functional space. We had to explore all the possibilities to transform it into a spa-like space without compromising on the functionality aspect."

"This was one of those bathrooms, which was just another functional space. We had to explore all the possibilities to transform it into a spa-like space without compromising on the functionality aspect."
The Brief: The existing bathroom was a very typical ‘builder’ space. Nothing clever or out of the box was done here. The idea was to add an element of interest and character to the space.
The Solution: Given the space, it was definitely a challenge. To recreate and layer all the requirements was the key. Since Lopamudra wanted a boudoir-style space, the architects opted for a black, white and grey palette. The flooring — print-etched-on-granite — was inspired by the Art Deco period. The basin counter is a restored Portuguese study table. The stone wall by the bathtub takes its inspiration from the water ripples, lending a calming effect to the entire space.
"The approach is simple and practical. With some amount of creative thinking, one can easily create a fun experience in the bathroom. The play of materials, use of interesting and intellige
